Now in our country, the development of the new rural construction is developing by leaps and bounds, the amount of rural residential construction is huge, but there exist many problems such as extensive construction, low level design, unreasonable function and structure, and so on.To coincides with the "4.20" earthquake and the opportunity of the reconstruction in Ya’an disaster area, it’s of the important significance to have a research on its new vernacular houses."Open building” systememphasizes the sustainable development of the architectural design and the structure system, and introduces the industrialization construction into the construction process. The standardization of design and construction in skeleton can reduce the randomness in construction process, which can achieve the goal of optimizing construction and reducing waste, improve the extensive construction in rural area. Thedesign of the infill can be varied according to local specific conditions, it has a strong adaptability on the satisfaction of the economy, the use of materials, and the life habit. At the same time, the "open building" theories advocate and encourage users to participate in the design, which will help improve the sameness of the residence scene in rural areas, promote the diversity of residential development. This article has five parts:The first chapter is the introduction part, the paper gives a brief introduction of the research background, purpose, significance, object, methodandthe present research status at home and abroad. The second chapter mainly introduces the related theory and practice of "open building " theories, illustrates the inner link between the "open building " theories and the traditional vernacular houses, and uses the SWOT analysis method to analyze the viability of leading the “open building” theories into the traditional vernacular houses design, and carries on detailed analysis to two design cases of “open building” theories. The third chapter and the forth chapterare the core part of the article, they describe the strategy which combines the “open building” theories with the contemporary vernacular houses in Ya’an region from two aspects of the design strategy and build strategy. In terms of design strategy, withthe sufficient investigation of the Ya ’an rural disaster area, it usesthe language tools and the operating system of the "open building" theoriesto design the space of the contemporary vernacular houses in Ya’ an region, and introducesthe thin-walled light steel structure as the strategy ofthe structure design. In terms ofconstruction strategy, combined with the author’s own experience and the use of reconstruction assistance, this part introduces the strategy of the basic level, the skeleton level layer and infill level in detail. The fifth chapter is on the basis of the former chapters, summarizes the insufficient in the process of designing and constructing the contemporary vernacular houses in Ya’an earthquake disaster area, and at the same time, proposes the development prospect of the Ya’an earthquake disaster area’s reconstruction and that of the “open building” system in rural areas.
