Adaptive front lighting system(AFS) is a kind of headlight system which can provide more than two beams with differing characteristics for automatic adaption to varying conditions. The system can obtain good lighting and avoid the discomfort to other drivers and road users. AFS is one of the new technologies in the field of vehicle lighting, but the research and the practical application in domestic have only started from the last two years. The research in domestic mainly focused on the theory of headlight servo system that can only improve the lighting around the bend and lacked the research and application of full-function AFS.According to the current research status in domestic, the research object of the AFS based on driving environments was proposed firstly. Based on domestic and foreign relations and standards, road traffic conditions in china and certain physiological basis of human eye, the lighting modes and lighting functions was determined. Then, on the basis of lighting modes and functions, mathematical models of vertical and horizontal angle adjustment of headlights was established and the angle adjustment model based on stopping sight distance and regulations was presented. After comparing of PID control algorithm, fuzzy control algorithm and fuzzy PID algorithm, a control algorithm was used for the closed-loop control of executive modules. And according to the control model, the system structure was designed including the design of master control module, executive modules, power-supply module and data communication network and the selections of sensors, and then the control system program was designed. Finally, the system prototype platform was built and then the system prototype experiment and computer optical simulation experiment was completed to test the reliability of control model and the feasibility of control strategy.The system was simulated in the laboratory prototype platform. After finishing the experiments and analyzing the experimental data, the system could reach the design target and lay the foundation for further research.
