With the vigorous development of China’s railway and the tr ain’s speed increasing, the railway transportation safety is becoming more and more important. Wheel size meeting the standards of the trains in-service is directly related to the running safety of the train. Along with the rapid expansion of the railway i ndustry, the workload of the railway inspection department has sharply aggravated. And train inspection department of wheel detection work in manual and auxiliary machinery environment, and unable to meet the needs of such a large workload requirements, so the design of wheel on-line automatic detection system has important practical significance.The followings are the main concents of the article:Firstly, analyse the current situation of the development of wheel flange detection technology at home and abroad.Then according to the design target of this system, analyse the measuring principle of this system. Analysis the main parameters and measurement methods to achieve the desired system. According to the principle of relative motion, analysis the motion regularity of wheel, establish the equivalent dynamics model of the wheel and the laser sensor, and we proposed a new method for measuring the height sequence of the wheel flange according to this model.Secondly introduce the overall scheme design of the system, including the measurement part, the lower computer control section and the upper computer display storage section. Select the appropriate measuring tool and the master chip for the scheme. The hardware circuit is designed according to the func tions of the system, including DSP minimum system circuit, communication module, external memory module, AD sampling module, wheel sensor signal conditioning module. Design and implement the program of the lower computer software, including the design of the main function, communication module, calculating the flange thickness using data fitting algorithm.Finally, completed the data display function of the upper computer. According to the system requirement, design and b rief introduce the function interface of rim curves and related data. In the end, we got the system test results and analyse of the results and the error.
