The studies on the adaptability of architectures in hot-humid regions mostly focus on sunshades, heat insulation, ventilation, moisture-resistance and so on. In recent years, as the energy crisis has become a global problem and the strategy of sustainable development has been imposed, building energy efficiency is becoming more and more valued. Natural ventilation can effectively reduce building energy consumption and provide fresh air to improve the quality of the indoor environment, which can also give people better physical and mental health. In hot-humid regions, although single-sided natural ventilation is used widely such as in resident buildings and office buildings, there are not so much researches on this area. So it is necessary to make the analysis and study on the elements of fa?ade which can improve the single-sided natural ventilation combining the climate features of the hot-humid regions, expecting to get some enlightenment for architectural design.Basing on the study and interpretation of the previous work, this essay sums up four spatial types of fa?ade which make the most influence on single-sided natural ventilation. They are flat window, scraggly elevation, sunshades and chimney on elevation. Firstly, the study of flat windows includes the different sizes, positions, summed-areas, ways of opening and arrangements in order to compare their different effects to the single-sided building, which is also the foundation of the three other types’ studies. Then the studies of the other fa?ade types all start from their history, practice on buildings, principles of ventilation, so that to find out the suitable strategies of the single-sided natural ventilation. Eventually, typical forms of each types are chosen to be texted by CFD, in order to prove their adaptability and efficiency. The study on the design strategy is mainly on how to use the architectural elements such as the forms of windows, sunshades and chimneys to play an effective role to strengthen the single-sided natural ventilation by increasing the air pressure difference of the air intakes and the air outlets in the room, according to the principles of the thermal pressure ventilation and the air pressure ventilation. The text of CFD is to study the cause of ventilation by simulating Guangzhou climate and the summer wind as the outdoor conditions to get the diagrams of air pressure, air speeds and air directions, and to evaluate the efficiency of the single-sides ventilation according to the height of the working surface in the room which is 1.2 meters high, the average air speeds of the sections, the largest air speed in the room and so on. Basing on these qualitative analyses and qualitative simulations, the suitable spatial design strategies of the fa?ade in hot-humid regions are summed up.
