In recent years, the development of UAV has accomplished a lot in domestic use and national defense which has a promising future. The twin ducted-fan vertical takeoff and landing UAV that this paper studies utilizes two ducted-fans as the power output for the aircraft and realizes the attitude control of the aircraft through changing the rotate speed and tilt angle. Based on this newly self-developed twin ducted fan UAV, this paper analyzed its mechanical structure and built the mathematical model through analyzing aerodynamic characteristics of the body and each component. The paper also verified the correctness of the model through numerical simulation and devised the controller of the aircraft, of which the feasibility and validity were examined through simulation, thus contributing numerically to the future experimental study of this kind of aircraft. This paper first compared and analyzed a large amount of developing experience of ducted-fan UAV and devised a new mechanical structure by consulting various relevant literature. Then, a hardware/software systems of UAV was built on the twin ducted-fan vertical takeoff and landing UAV. Furthermore, the paper created a non-linear mathematical model after meticulously analyzing the dynamic characteristic of the twin ducted-fan UAV. After that, the model was verified by numerical simulation. Lastly, the automatic control system of this UAV was devised and the feasibility and validity were examined through simulation.
