As one of the ‘Three Tibetan Regions’, Amdo Tibetan Region located in the land of double-side edge is the ‘Chinese-Tibetan boundary’ in the traditional sense, which enjoys unique regional features. It is a geographical environment and culture platform shared by a number of cultural communities with cultural differences. The vernacular dwelling in this region as a material carrier of traditional culture in the region is an important part of Tibetan culture. However, due to the inertia effect of rapid urbanization, the highly distinctive vernacular landscape of traditional villages still suffers from the impact and is faced with the decline. Therefore, an analysis of the features of traditional villages in Amdo Tibetan Region and the excavation of the causes of architectural features of vernacular dwellings is of far-reaching significance to the guidance of rural construction, the inspiration of the local vernacular dwelling construction and the protection of regional cultural.This paper selects Guomari Village located in the Amdo region as the research object. This village is located in the middle section of Longwu River valley in the east of Qinghai, which is an important place to carry out a research on traditional villages and vernacular dwellings since it has a complete village pattern and a considerable number of traditional dwellings. This paper applies and draws on the relevant theories and previous achievements in architecture, urban and rural planning, history and anthropology, etc. to carry out an in-depth research on this village.This paper is divided into six parts: Chapter I explains the research object and scope of this paper and determines the purpose and method of the research; from the perspective of Regong place, Chapter II introduces the generalized matrix environment where Guomari Village is located and analyzes and summarizes the causes of Tunpu culture from two aspects, namely, natural environment and cultural environment; Chapter III takes Guomari Village as the research object, introduces the influence factors and processes of address selection construction and spatial evolution, and describes the current village pattern from the aspects including space composition, road system and village structure; Chapter IV focuses on traditional dwellings and individual buildings, introduces the flat shape and functional layout of local dwellings through examples, analyzes the organizational logic from the dwellings to the neighborhood form, describes the aspects such as external form, structure and construction, construction technology and architecture decorative art, etc., and at the end of this chapter, summarizes prototype features of traditional dwellings; Chapter V discusses the ‘where to go’ problem of Guomari, reveals the existing contradictions in this village and proposes the principles and strategies for development protection. The last chapter summarizes the foregoing conclusions, points out the deficiencies in this paper, and puts forward the prospect of further research.
