Reinforced concrete structure is one of the most popular structure types used in the highway bridge. Due to the degeneration of the material performance and maintenance is not timely, a large number of reinforced concrete bridges are working in bad conditions with different damages, seriously endangering the safety of the structure of the bridge. The lower part of bridge structure, especially the damage of bridge pier is essential to the security implications of whole bridge. Many scholars around the world have focused on the research of the retrofit of bridge pier. A large amount of reinforcement method are proposed. These methods are based on different angles and different materials to improve the durability and the bearing capacity of bridge pier. However, the study of the reinforcement didn’t get good solve, still attracts many scholars continued to carry out the research in this field.PUFA composites is a newly developed material, which is friendly to the environmental protection in recent years. It is high strength, light quality, good durability and strong adhesive to concrete. Many scholars have used this composite material in strengthening the old bridges. The main content of this thesis is aimed at the strengthen of reinforced concrete bridge cylinder piers, using new type of composite material PUFA. Through experiment and numerical simulation calculation, the effect of strengthening the RC piers using PUFA are investigated deeply. Several experiment sample are made out and tested in the lab. The relevant data is collected and analysis carefully. At the same time, using finite element analysis software ABAQUS, the numerical simulation analysis of the test process are carried out, the numerical simulation results are in good agreement with those obtained with the test results. Test and numerical simulation results show that the PUFA materials can significantly increase the bearing capacity and deformation capacity of reinforced concrete bridge piers. Based on the experimental results, the reinforcement design formula and design method of strengthening the RC bridge pier are proposed. Thesis research results can provide reference for engineering application.
