The ship chamber is an integral component in the ship lock structure, the accuracy in calculations associated with its design will directly influence the practicality and final cost of the project. In this thesis, the principle, model, work method and results are compared using the traditional method and the 3D Finite Element Method(FEM). The thesis further introduces the use of a FEM software ANSYS in terms of its work methods by applying to a real life example in Panjin,Shuangtaizi in Liaoning province ship lock upgrade project which is a model of docking lock chamber structure on soil base.Two types of design methods are undertaken, from which, two calculation methods are derived for the purpose of comparison.These research work and result are:By using the traditional method,calculate the stability of docking lock chamber structure on soil base by using various load combinations and kinds of work conditions.By using 3D FEM software ANSYS, constructing the ship chamber model and the interaction between the ship lock and its surrounding soils.The results obtained by the finite element method and analytical method results obtained were compared to verify the accuracy of the finite element software ANSYS modeling and computational structure, and draw the boundary conditions on the structural analytical method to calculate the limitations of the finite element method and the actual parameters to add more real than the analytical method. But some local or key parts of the finite element calculations larger than the analytical method.It’s due to some focus node in the model of stress;ANSYS software and traditional analytical method eventually came to the same result: Docking Lock Chamber against sliding on the soil base, anti-dumping, anti-floating stability in line with the design conditions, but the foundation bearing capacity at each station under the conditions can not meet the conditions, the need for ground treatment;By changing the angle of internal friction angle between the gate and the back wall of the vertical line, the stress distribution of the Lock Chamber structure becomes very uniform.Combining the results of nonlinear finite element calculation and analysis, the results show that: the dock on the subgrade type lock chamber structure, weight and backfill soil chamber pressure is an important factor affecting the structural stability chamber.
