In the city, Urban Color as one of the basic elements of the city’s landscape, reflect the information such as: regional, national culture, history, aesthetic information. Urban color is a new research field in the world and the historical development of this field is only a few decades. But the research have specific conditions and difficulties in our country. A United Nations report said, " in the past 30 years of China, city develop more than any other country in the world." In 1949, urbanization ratio just around 10%, in 1978 was only 18%, but in 2014 urbanization ratio has been close to 60%. The sharp increase of city, bring great pressure to China of urban color. Usually, the western city is small town, slow growth and development. But Chinese city like bamboo after a spring rain, is the high-speed growth, even like "Airborne".Aiming at the problem of urban color, China has carried out research on urban color and the relevant practical work since twentieth Century 90 years, obtain positive result about control the urban color. However, present Chinese didn’t have systematic urban color design method, the design process is still with the tendency of personal experience. A lot of urban color designer just based on the experience and lack of a rational, so the urban color design is difficult to be objective and quantitative, lack of operability.In this paper, we collect 111 urban color design projects of China in recent years, analysis on the design method and design contents of urban color implementation effect. As the object for study, and as the relationship of urban color design method and project post operation for target. Then we get the following results:First, try to design ideal quantitative value of the urban color content and use recommend color as design elements, in the construction is not operability. So we should based on the theory of “geography of color”, let the urban color situation where can not change as the basis. Afterwards, establish urban color system which coordinate with the hole city and have operability.Second, let the appearance that design of urban color in the future as a target, so that city can establish a color blueprint. It isn’t have operability. But should be based on the stage and dynamic of urban color control model, established recently, medium-term, long-term goal.Third, the color control method through city function zoning, building function separate partition, in the construction is not operability. But should create that based on the city spatial structure, urban color control level, large building hierarchical classification as operate mode. Such as the urban planning model: overall planning, zoning planning, regulatory detailed planning, the detailed planning of the construction mode. So that form an effective controlling method.Fourth, the collection methods that non selective urban color information acquisition and urban color receiver’s subjective judgment can not control. But should be collect objective and effective information of urban color, then investigate the urban color subjective recipients in order to receive subjective information which detailed and separate different levels.Fifth, the recently research of operability about urban color design is operable by distinguish the main color, the auxiliary color and the ornament color. But most of the practice judge by the subjective experience of designer. So, if we want to create objective design method about urban color design. We must set the quantified as center, combined with the theory of visual landscape and landscape ecology theory to determine the capacity of the urban color capacity, even use the parameterized model. This will be the important strategy of solving urban color design operational problems.
