Shipborne video system for photoelectric tracking can be used in detection of marine resources and environment and marine rescue. As well as search, monitoring and track of maneuvering targets in low altitude marine surface. It is the auxiliary facility for carrier-based weapon system and the indispensable part for fleet. It also has important value for engineering application and it has potential economic benefits, so, the research is of great significance. In this paper, the FPGA is used as the core processor, especially emphasizes the design process of the whole system, and completes the shipborne video photoelectric tracking system based on FPGA. The structure of system is clear, less peripheral PCB circuit, high integration density, good target recognition, tracking system is stable and has a good engineering significance.Firstly, the paper makes a brief overview for the process of FPGA digital system design. Then, makes top-level design for the tracking system. And system is divided into two parts: video image processing and the servo motor control. Finally, paper carries on the theoretical research and eventually implementation in FPGA for various modules under the framework of the overall design.In video image processing, this paper analyses the advantages and disadvantages of the common filter algorithm, fast median filtering algorithm is adopted to improve the image filtering, and experimental results show that the algorithm has good filtering effect of salt and pepper noise. Paper compares the traditional moving target recognition and tracking algorithms, focuses on the principle of template correlation matching algorithm. In order to reduce the search process trivial, template matching algorithm, the problem of low efficiency, the paper improved the search strategy, designed the centroid tracking algorithm based on RGB color feature matching, and implemented in FPGA. Algorithm is simple and the search speed, high efficiency, and has strong anti-jamming ability.In servo control, firstly, this paper makes a mathematical modeling analysis of the servo motor control, details the four quadrant two-dimensional automatic tracking control and rocker manual control principle, and implements the functions in the FPGA design. Considering the influence of the waves, the paper briefly makes hull by the wave disturbance model analysis, and design based on the stability of the gyro and potentiometer signal control module. Tests found that the system can reach a certain stability when disturbance effect.This paper offers the result of indoor experimental tests and maritime experimental tests. And the experiment shows that system could run normally, that is, VGA displayer can display real-time video frame, rocker can control the operation status of photoelectric pod. Under the condition of low speed motion, after the capture of the target, system can track the target in real time. Under the resolution of 640×480, the tracking error of azimuth-drive motor is(80±10)-pixel points, the maximum tracking angular is 30 /s, and tracking error of pitching motor is(50±10)-pixel points, the maximum tracking angular is 10 /s. The minimum size of target recognition is 16×16 pixels matrix.
