The front end accessory drive system of the engine is the key subsystem in the engine,therefore,quality of the design to this system,influences the power output,reliability,cooling performance and vehicle NVH of the engine.Currently,domestic research on independent Design of the engine front gear train is at an initial stage.However,with the continuous development of the automobile industry,it is urgent for us to establish a set of design theory and guideline in order to guide the design and application of the engine front gear train,this paper has carried out the following work:Firstly,this paper studied the design software of front end accessory drive-system which were wildly used around the world.The two software are SimDrive3D and ROTEC.SimDrive3D can be used to check the parameter of the front end accessory drive-system static layout(consists of the belt's length,strain,maximum elongation and the parameter of the tensioner,etc.)and dynamic parameter(load of each wheel,natural frequency of each belt and slip rate,transverse vibration of the belt shares,etc.).ROTEC can be used to test the vibration of the wheel train.Secondly,this paper studied the theoretical basis about the front end accessory drive-system design.Front end accessory drive-system consistes of capstan,load wheel,training wheel,spring and tension element.This paper mainly studied the characteristic of elastic element-belt and the classification,working principle and performance characteristic of tension element-tensioner.And the basic method and process of the front end accessory drive-system's static design was also discussed.Finally,this paper mainly introduced the optimization and improvement process of the front wheel system of the engine from Yuchai Diesel Engine Corporation.The advantages and disadvantages of each optimization scheme were illustrated by analyzing the three schemes of optimization of the front-end wheel with SimDrive3D.In the end,the optimal scheme was adopted,and the reliability verification was verified by ROTEC test and 200h reliability test.It was proved that the optimal solution can solve the actual engineering problem.The consistency between the analysis of SimDrive3D theory and the actual production was also verified.Through the engine front gear train optimization process,it can be found that the same placement of load wheel,because of different tensioner and auxiliary idler layout changes,can greatly optimize the gear train performance,and improve the life span of gear train the belt.The research provides a basis for design for the layout optimization of The front end accessory drive system of the engine.The combination of SimDrive3D theory analysis tools with ROTEC testing tools has a certain reference value to The front end accessory drive system of the engine design.
