With the acceleration of China’s urbanization process, increasing the urban population, housing problem has become one of the most important problems in the city. From the No.23 Document of the State Council in 1998 which put forward the concepts of “Cheap Renting House” and “Affordable Housing” to the No.24 Document of the State Council in 2007, and in Twelfth Five-year Plan period we need to build 36 million dwelling units for low income population. A series of policy of ensuring the system of urban housing guarantee in our country make the indemnificatory housing become the focus of the society, and the indemnificatory housing is constructed rapidly by each place government. Unfortunately, there are lots of using problems in indemnificatory housing like the shortage of storage space; the structure is not reasonable enough; the interference in neighborhood; The darkness of public space and so on because the research on it is not fully enough and the government has not provide a standard yet. It has become the focus of the society and academic circles.Because of the Strong regional culture characteristic and the typical climate characteristic, and the political background of being the pioneer of the reform and opening up, Lingnan district is the best place to build and do some research on the indemnificatory housing. For indemnificatory housing, the dwelling units are similar to each other because of the climate and the culture. So we take the Guangzhou and Shenzhen as our research object which has a large amount of population; requirement; construction, and take the other cities as a supplement. These two cities are full of typicality, representation and epochal character whether in climate, culture or requirement. This thesis takes the space in the dwelling units of Indemnificatory Housing in Lingnan District and the inhabitants’ way of living as the research objects. In order to conclude the inhabitants’ way of living we will evaluate and analysis the space of dwelling units and observe the spatial usage and subjective tendencies by taking questionnaire, interview, non-Intervenient evaluation, cognitive map, psychological & physical methods as our research method. Finally we will summarize the way to adapt the space, behavior, climate in the design of dwelling units, and put forward the Pattern Language of Indemnificatory Housing in Lingnan District and the design guideline. Aim at accelerating the improvement of design theory and filling in the blank of the combination between the design of dwelling units, SEBE and traditional way of living in Lingnan district, we will take the conclusion as the reference and the guidance for the design of Indemnificatory Housing in Lingnan District.
