With the developing of the power grid scale and the increase of the voltage level, the current transmission line have to afford more loads, which is an impact for the safety and the reliability of transmission line, and also cause some potential safety hazards. In the process of transmission, the joints of the transmission line are the weak point and they always cause accidents. The transmission lines are very important in the grid system, and if there is a fault in the line, it will affect the entire downstream grid and cause a big economic lost. As the transmission lines are in the wild and very high above the ground, it is very hard to detect the T-nodes of transmission lines, so a remote temperature measurement system of the joint is needed. In this paper, according to the current research status, the transmission line on-line detection technology of the domestic and the abroad are compared, and a kind of remote online temperature measurement system based on the ZigBee and the GPRS is developed. There is a temperature terminal device at the joint of transmission line and it communicates with the regional routing equipment nearby. Then the temperature data is conveyed to the monitoring center by GPRS wireless module of the regional routing equipment. A hand-held terminal device is designed, and it can display all the temperatures of joints in real time which will increase the efficiency of the stuff. The hardware and software of temperature measurement terminal unit, regional route, monitoring center servers, and hand-held device are designed to achieve different kinds of functions. Finally, an on-line monitoring system of transmission line joints is designed, which is low power consumption, low cost, high performance, reliable.
