Along with the lar ge-scale infrastructure construction in China, tunn el construction occupies an ever increasing proportion in the engineering of all railway lines. Influenced by such factors as length, depth of e mbedment, unfavorable geological conditions, and others, we may encounter many problems like water inru sh, mud extrusion, landslide, and karsts. These unpredictable geological disasters have become major aporia in engineering construction. To ensure the saf ety of staff and property, construction companies pay m ore and more attention to geological prediction.TRT6000 System is a new geological prediction method introduced in 2006. However, due to its short period of introduction, it has ve ry few users and people just m ade a brief explanation of its usage. Very little research has been done to improve its data accuracy and reliability. Serious con sequence may arise, especially among green hands, when they manipulate, manage and estimate improperly in the use of TRT-6000.Based on practical inform ation obtained from the application of TR T6000 system in several tunnel projects of railway construction in m iddle and south Shanxi Province, this paper focuses on the working principles, opera ting essentials, data management method of TRT-6000 system. Therefore, some successful predictions have been made and a great deal of on-the-spot materials and graphs gathered. Furthermore, principles on the prediction of unfavorable geological phenomena like water inrush, projecting mud soil, landslide, karsts have also been put forward. T o sum up, this paper analyzes the problem s of TRT-6000 system itself, gives som e proposals on im proving system operation and data processing, which will m ake the system more convenient and econom ical, simpler and faster in geological prediction. It is hoped that m ore accuracy in pred iction will be achieved and a more reliable technical support will be provided for a safe, fast and cheap construction.
