Z-shaped column is widely used in the residential structure of architecture in china, but currently, researches on Z-shaped column are insufficient, kinds of correlative data and conclusions are absent. Therefore, there is no unified design method for Z-shape column in engineering field at present. Based on the experimental study of 7 Z-shaped columns subjected to biaxially eccentric compression, this dissertation reveals the failure pattern of Z-shaped column, and the main factor that effect the capacity and lateral bending of the Z-shape column. Basing on the results of experiments, we used the software "ANSYS" which builded on the finite element method, comparison between theoretical and experiment results was made and satisfactory agreement between them was obtained. On the basis of these, analyzes and summarizes the slenderness ratio and eccentricity ratio which effected the capacity and lateral bending of the Z-shape column, then the regression formula was obtained from the experiment and numerical simulation results, and then compared the results with the criterion formula. Think that the criterion formula can also be used for the design of Z-shape column.
