With the development of the national energy saving reform, the requirement on heat saving has been further enhanced. Reducing the heat loss in the pipeline transmission is an effective way to save heating energy. Recently, thanks to the upgrade of heat preservation technology, the diameter of pipeline has been enlarged and the heating coverage in China has been extended to the high-level underground water areas in southern China. Therefore, it requires workable detecting method of heat loss to provide data and theoretical support. It is necessary to summarize and analyze the data in different areas, with different layouts and working conditions, to look for a practical and effective way of detecting and calculating the heating efficiency.The paper introduces the historic and current development of urban heating in China and abroad, analyzed the problems in China’s heating network, and found out some detecting methods of the heat loss in the pipeline transmission. Furthermore, it also looked into the workability of on-site heat loss detection based on different working environment. Besides, the thesis summarized the factors of heat loss and provided solutions to minimize the impact of heat loss in the transmission network.
