Nanjing Qixia District plays an important role in Nanjing modern industrial building history because of its superior geographical position and abundant mineral resources,for that,it became one of the traditional industrial zones in Nanjing city with plengty of old mining enterprises left. However, in the pace of the post industrialization, the traditional industry is gradually replaced by new industries under the the dual influence of property structural adjustment and city spatial expansion, and the old industrial factory buildings also are abandoned in the urban area. Therefore, the transformation and recycle of old industrial factory buildings has turn into an important opportunity to revive the city’s energy.Taking this as the background, starting from the characteristics of the times and the regions of transformation design of old industrial building in Nanjing Qixia District, this paper analyzes the old industrial factory location distribution characteristics and the existing problems and summarizes the characteristics of architectural style, spatial structure and other aspects in this area, regarding the transformation design of old industrial building in Nanjing Qixia District as research subjects, in order to conclude specific design elements and methods and provide reference for further researches and design.This paper consists of six parts: Chapter 1: Introduction. This chapter puts forward the research background, purpose and significance, defines the related concepts, discusses theories and practices in related fields both at home and abroad, clears the current situation of this researches and determines the technical route and the framework of the research according to the research content.Chapter 2: This chapter discusses the development and regional distribution characteristics of old industrial building in Nanjing Qixia District, analyzes the status quo and remaining problems of the old plants and evaluates its significance of transformation and recycle.Chapter 3: This chapter analyzes building types and characteristics of the old industrial building in Nanjing Qixia District, classifies the old industrial buildings in accordance with the space, structure and industry and summarizes the architectural style characteristics in different periods of the industrial plants. Chapter 4: This chapter proposes reconstruction methods and contents and concludes its transformation elements and specific design according to the above summary about the classification and characteristics of space, structure, style and features of old plants in this area.Chapter 5: This chapter analyzes coming problems and coping strategies during transformation, regarding Nanjing Coal Mine Machinery Factory as the design object.
