After the founding of the New China in 1949, Domestic hydraulic infrastructures entered a new period of large scale construction, hydraulic infrastructures developed rapidly. We had made great achievements in the following aspects such as flood control and water logged elimination, farmland irrigation, water and electricity supply, making electric with water, shipping and so on. During the decade of 50s to 80s in the 20th Century, the construction achievements of domestic hydraulic infrastructures were as follows:560 million large, medium and small-sized reservoirs,241 large sluices, over 5000 agricultural irrigation areas which were up to one million mu. Since 60s in 20 centuries. We enter a seismic high incidence stage,and reached peak at the 1976 Tangshan earthquake.After this, seismic activities become slightly flat. But, after 1985, the earthquake as well as enhanced. In all previous earthquakes, various hydraulic infrastructures damaged to different degrees.When building Nanwan reservoir earth dam, We began to take seismic design of hydraulic infrastructures into account. From the beginning of the 1961 XinJiang earthquake recorded in Xikeer reservoir dam in Bachu, We made system records and statistics of seismic data of hydraulic infrastructures. The accident of hydraulic infrastructures in earthquake can cause serious damage. The careful study on seismic data of hydraulic infrastructures, analysis of damage causes and influence factors can have a very important significance on the earthquake research of hydraulic infrastructures and the disaster prevention and mitigation in the future.In the light of hydraulic infrastructures seismic data during 1961 and 1988, this paper selects 16 major earthquakesBased on the detailed collation, induction, statistics and analysis on the valuable data, the ydraulic infrastructures typical earthquake damage and damage characteristics are sum up. Besides the causes were analyzed, summarized the main influencing factors, discusses the damage repair measures. Finally the hydraulic infrastructures damage database system was created with a strong information sharing, detailed data, friendly interface. The main work and achievements are as follows:(1) This paper expounds the general situation of hydraulic infrastructures damage during 1961 and 1988 years in China. The seismic survey statistics of 16 major earthquakes on industrial buildings were counted. Hydraulic infrastructures wer vigorously built in China during this period, as the same time, this period is a period of high incidence of the earthquakes occurred in China. Besides, just in thus period, all kinds of hydraulic infrastructures are subject to varying degrees of damage in the earthquake. Overall seismic intensity increases, damage degree also increased, but there are also some abnormal intensity of earthquake disaster area, may be a factor for site conditions, project type, the construction quality of the role.(2) Through the summary of the damage situation of all kinds of hydraulic infrastructures in the Beijing-Tianjin-Tangshan region during the Tangshan earquake. some constructive suggestions were put forward aimed at improving the quality of earthquake disaster reduction work. According to earthquake damage phenomenon, typical characteristics, the main factors of earthquake damage is exploring. This paper consider the main factors affecting the hydraulic infrastructures occurring earthquake disasters are ground motion intensity, local geology and site effect, water depth at reservoir upstream before earthquake. Always these factors tend to become the main causes increasing the damage of water conservancy engineering hydraulic infrastructures. The comprehensive examination and analysis should be adopted and the engineering measures.(3)Based on the statistical and analytical earthquake data, access-based seismic damage database for Chinese hydraulic infrastructures during the 1961-1988 major earthquakes was comstructed. And the process of creating the system was introduced detailed in the paper. And the software system user manua was given. Establishment of this damage database is not only beneficial to provide basic data of earthquake prevention and disaster reduction, but also provide a operation platform to further expansion statistics.
