For harmonics and reactive power problems of today’s life and industrial production, this paper leads to the STATCOM(static synchronous compensator) technology research from the reason and harm of harmonics and reactive power; STATCOM is a both harmonic suppression, but also reactive power compensation device, this paper carried out a deep study on the STATCOM technology. For the circuit structure of the STATCOM system, this paper analyzed the two common forms of voltage source and current source type, and select the voltage source type circuit structure for research; This paper described the basic principle of the STATCOM system according to the voltage source type circuit structure, and established the mathematical model of STATCOM system. In terms of system signal detection, this paper analyzed the RMS detection method, Fourier transform method and so on several ways, the paper chosed ip-iq instantaneous current detection method based on instantaneous reactive theory to improve real-time finally, and proposed an improved method of its delay compensation. For the choice of control strategy, this paper introduced the hysteresis control, triangle wave comparison control and hysteresis optimal vector control and so on several control strategies from two aspects of indirect control and direct control, finally choosed the triangle wave comparison control strategy of switching frequency fixed for research.Aiming at the improved algorithm of signal detection and several control strategies, this paper used MATLAB to establish the STATCOM system simulation model, verified the hysteresis control strategy, triangle wave compare control method and improved algorithm is feasible. Then introduced the implementation process of the experimental prototype system, analyzed the system of the selection of the power switch tube, DC side capacitance and the output connection inductance parameter optimization design in detail;And introduced, the signal acquisition circuit, detection circuit, photoelectric isolation circuit and so on hardware circuit design and software flow chart of the system. Then, presented the experimental results and the related results analysis of STATCOM system, verified the practicality of the designed STATCOM system.
