In the promotion of clean energy background, the demand of distributed clean energy grid is growing. Transformer as an important part of the power system, the efficient is more critical. With the development of high-power devices, the new power electronic transformer is gradually developing towards high power. High-speed rail as transportation shortens time and space, and provide a convenient travel for people in new age. The requirements of vehicle transformer as power core components in high power density, volume and weight for light weight are becoming more intense. Improve frequency is an effective way to reduce size and weight of the vehicle transformer. In this thesis, electromagnetic and temperature characteristics have been calculated and analyzed for medium frequency(MF) transformer.This thesis summarizes the domestic and foreign research of medium frequency transformer. The right MF transformer traction system according to the particularity is selected, and some selection methods and reference values about the key parameters are given. MF electromagnetic field principles have been analyzed, and selected the appropriate principles for MF transformer. It summarizes the main design formulas and principles of MF transformer, and have designed main electromagnetic parameters of medium-frequency transformer to meet requirements.Electromagnetic characteristics of the amorphous material has been discussed, and simulation and discussion on MF transformers 1kHz square wave output characteristics are discussed, include 50% duty cycle and the optimal duty cycle. That is a guiding significance for power electronic transformer to realize the transformer of square wave input and output. This thesis has analyzed the electromagnetic properties based on an MF transformer. Then fine modeling and analyze with MagNet, it is observed that high frequency effects cannot be ignored. Magnetic flux leakage is tested on an amorphous distribution transformer, and the thesis has proposed a simulation program which is extended to magnetic flux leakage of MF transformer. Short-circuit impedance has been calculated with energy method which phase shifting rectifier transformer had used.Increase of frequency has a great impact on magnetic material, so the thesis has analyzed the material performance called 2605SA1. Analytic calculation and finite element calculations is compared at iron loss in the MF transformer,and the winding loss also has been calculated.Finally, the paper introduces the temperature field theory in transformer, and the calculation method of the heat transfer coefficient. Then judged flow state before simulation. For example, temperature field with water-cooled has been simulated in this MF transformer. It shows temperature distribution at different speed. It gives the winding temperature distribution of two cooling way by simulation, including water and air cooling.
