Pedestrian signal control is a key means to solve the conflict of pedestrians and vehicles in the road sections. As to the pedestrians, signal control can improve the crossing security, but for vehicles, this method, which equals to increases an intersection, often results in the increase of intersection vehicle delay, the reduction of capacity and so on. Not only can’t the unreasonable signal timing plans meet the actual needs of the pedestrian crossing, but also cause the adverse effect.The accuracy of detecting is constantly improved and a mass of effective data can be extracted for the decision makers. Based on the data of the number and waiting times of pedestrians, signal schemes can be made more reasonable and the utilization rate of the time can be improved to realize real-time control. At the same time, it can meet the pedestrian crossing needs of different number and avoid excessive or inadequate of crossing time. Based on the research actuality, this paper analysis the characteristics of the crossing pedestrian and traffic flow to study on the signal control method in the road sections. Completions and conclusions are summarized as follows:(1)Study on the characteristics of crossing pedestrians in the signal road sectionsThrough studying the characteristics of crossing pedestrians and threshold of waiting time, along with analyzing the velocity of crossing pedestrians under different factors conditions, the model between number and velocity of crossing pedestrian is established. Analyzing the pedestrian crossing speed in different green light phase, the threshold of waiting of the crossing pedestrian in flat peak period is reached through the survival analysis. Analyze the influencing factors by the application of COX model.(2)Study on the signal coordination between the road sections and intersectionBased on the research of the characteristics studied before, pedestrian green time model of the pedestrian number is established. Combining the model previously mentioned, sensor control system under low-density and fixed control system under high-density are separately discussed. Taking the upstream intersection into consideration, unidirectional coordinated and double-sided coordinated control system are designed. With the control idea that providing pedestrian green time with the "shared red time", the best through time gap is further analyzed. Fix start coordinates of green time which changes with the number of pedestrian crossing. Finally, analyze the superiority of the system under high-density through example verification.(3)Study on fuzzy logic control method in the signal road sectionsStudy on fuzzy control for pedestrians crossing under low-density on the road sections. Through the method of designing the fuzzy logic controller, developing fuzzy control rules and setting the membership function of number of motor vehicles, pedestrians waiting time and headway of vehicles dissipate, the time when to change the signal phase is decided by fuzzy judgment. Analyze the applicability of fuzzy logic control on the road section by simulation software and test the effectiveness through comparing to traditional control methods under low-density.This paper analyzes the characteristics of pedestrian crossing and vehicle in the road sections. And it studies on the method of signal control under low-density and high-density. There are still some deficiencies in this study, thus some prospects and future research plans are proposed at the end of the paper.
