The importance of steering system is self-evident in the design process of wheel crane.Its performance directly affects the safety of vehicle and the smoothness of operation of the driver. With the rapid development of technology, the design of the steering system is more and more mature, many of which are repetitive work. In this context, parametric design method was born. This design method can greatly improve the work efficiency, save design time, shorten the production cycle, while giving designers more time to engage in creative work. Under this reason,the author deeply researches steering system of wheel crane and sums up design and calculation of steering system of wheel crane. Based on this calculations, the author trys to develop a design calculation software of steering system.Firstly, this paper describes the background and significance of the development of design and calculation software of steering system of wheel crane, describes the types of wheeled crane steering system, and analyzes the characteristics of each type.Secondly, this paper introduces the principle of the steering wheel cranes and analyzes its steering modes. Based on the Ackerman Principle,this paper detailedly researches the relationship of angle between the inner and outer for same steering shaft and different steering shaft. For five steering modes,the author expounds their features and analyzes their dynamics.Thirdly, the author sorts out the method of design and calculation of steering system of wheel crane. According to the actual situation of a company, the steering system design calculation is divided into three parts, namely: minimum turning radius calculation, place the steering resistance torque and power moment, steering mechanism force calculation. The author studies and concludes that general formula for the three parts.Fourthly, the author describes in detail The development of design and calculation software of steering system,including:initial preparation work,interface design,implement software features and secondary development of UG. For preparatory work,the paper mainly expounds the general idea of software designs and software requirements. About UG secondary development, this paper describes the system environment variable setting, menu design, UG with MFC communication and generated steering system DLL projects.Finally, this paper introduces the test of software function based on specifications,and and software testing process and results are analyzed in detail. According to test,test results meet expectations, indicating that the steering system design calculation software meets the design requirements and usage requirements.
