The oil shale can be refined shale oil by low temperature dry distillation, and the suspension combustion mode is adopted to generate electricity. Because of its high degree of mineralization and the low oil rate, there are a large number of oil shale waste residue after the treatment. At the same time, the oil shale waste residue also includes the surrounding rock in the process of oil shale extraction and so on. With the exploitation of oil shale, the emissions of oil shale waste residue will continue to increase. At present, oil shale waste is mainly used for making fertilizer and building materials etc., the added value of these applications is low and the economic benefit is not high. Besides, the consumption of oil shale waste residue for extracting trace elements is also too small, and the treatment is to discard it directly in the vicinity. The oil shale waste residue contains a large number of toxic substances or potential hazards to human material and will pollute the surrounding land, water and biological. Its direct effect is the destruction of agricultural production and causing the surrounding areas of land to acidification and poisoning. The production capacity of the soil decreased, so the lives and health of residents will be threatened. Therefore, starting from the requirements of economic and environmental coordination and regional sustainable development, how to make rational use of oil shale waste becomes the bottleneck of oil shale resource development industry. The highway engineering construction needs a large amount of construction materials and how to apply oil shale waste residue in highway engineering is significative. It can not only ease the tension of road building material to create certain economic and social benefits, but also waste oil shale waste to reduce the impact on the ecological environment, so it will have relatively broad application prospectsThis paper focuses on the application of oil shale waste residue in highway subgrade, and the main research work are as follows:1. The properties of oil shale waste residue elemental materials were tested, the main tests are element contents, mineral composition, appearance and composition, particle composition,density and water absorption, liquid plastic limit, crushing value, free expansion, bulk density and void ratio and other technical indicators.2. Through indoor trials, the compaction properties, value of CBR, resilient modulus andshear strength of oil shale waste residue were tested. Then, the 40% clay content of oil shale residue was applied to the subgrade engineering of secondary roads in Jilin Province, and the compaction degree of the test section was tested.3. The feasibility of cement stabilized application in subgrade is discussed. Based on 28 days unconfined compressive strength, the reasonable amount of cement was determined. And the mechanical properties, deformation properties and shrinkage performance of cement stabilized oil shale waste materials with reasonable cement content were tested.
