This paper compared the performance of different kinds of folding bicycles and found that there are deficiencies in different aspects. This paper aimed to design a kind of folding bicycle which had these characteristics: small in size, light-weight, low cost, convenient and it could save cost. So we should propose a new project to solve the above shortcomings and design the parameters and the structure of the folding mechanism, besides kinematics analysis, static analysis, strength analysis, structure design, motion simulation and prototype test, etc to ensure the safety, reliability and the feasibility of the bicycle. This thesis mainly completed the following several aspects specifically:Firstly, this paper studied various folding bicycles and compared heir advantages and disadvantages as well as other existing problems. And it proposed a better project based on metamorphic principle according to the original design requirement and purpose. This paper also analyzed the degree of freedom of folding bicycles in different configurations.Secondly, in advance, we studied the structure and its dimension of the bicycle before converted. And we design the size of the folding mechanism according to the man-machine engineering, design experience and industry standard of bicycle. Finally, it designed the size data of the project by using sketch properties function of Solidworks.Thirdly, we carried out a kinematical analysis on the folding mechanism about its folding process. This paper analyzed the motion angle and position of each bar and then force analysis was carried out after loading according to the national standard test methods for folding bicycles.Finally, using Solidworks to design the structure and establish the three-dimensional model and simulation analysis was carried out by using the part of the software which was called Motion to ensure the feasibility of folding. The stress-strain analysis of each bar and other parts was also carried out by using ANSYS Workbench to ensure that each component have enough strength. We carried out the experiment verification to verify all of the above theory research and the virtual simulation by manufacturing physical prototypes. So we can verify the folding mechanism whether if it can achieve the intended target and the desired folding effect.
