In the existing constructions of high-rise wood frame, the energy dissipation capacity of the brace with the wooden structure is general, and the connection node is easy to splitting wood prone to damage or tensile shear failure of the bolt. Not only can buckling restrained braces effectively solve these problems, but also it can change the dynamic characteristics of the structure. Nowadays, the research of buckling restrained braces on the wooden structure is little practically applied. This paper analyzes that the existing buckling restrained braces applied to the construction of the high-rise wood frame should be considered to solve the self-important, and construction coordination issues. In the view of this, we propose a new kind of lightweight steel-timber Buckling Restrained Brace.The steel-timber Buckling Restrained Brace is an independent research and development of energy dissipation device, so we need to study the following aspects of it, such as the basic construction,the working principle, the manufacturing process,the energy-dissipating capacity and the design method. This article mainly completed the following works:1. This article puts forward the steel-timber Buckling Restrained Brace’s basic construction. Combining with the designability of glulam, this article puts forward the idea of the avoid filling buckling-restrained member which has the characteristic of light weight and high strength.2. Based on the Orthogonal laminated glulam molding process, this article has designed the process flow of steel-timber Buckling Restrained Brace.This article has designed and produced eight root scale models.3. By the experiment, the steel-timber Buckling Restrained Brace’s performance indexes under low reversed cyclic loading have been studied, including the overall performance, the energy dissipation and so on.At the same time, the steel- timber Buckling Restrained Brace is compared with the glulam brace with the slotted-in steel plate bolt connection.4. The basic working principle of the steel-timber Buckling Restrained Brace has been analyzed in this article. By the theoretical deduction, the main mechanical properties of the steel-timber Buckling Restrained Brace are given, such as the equivalent elastic stiffness, the equivalent elastic-plastic stiffness, the minimum gap, the global stability, the stability of steel core member, the statiblity of the connection section and so on.5. By fitting the test data, we has got the hysteretic model of steel-timber Buckling Restrained Brace.6. Finally, this article has discussed the design method of the steel-timber Buckling Restrained Brace and put forward the design process of the steel-timber Buckling Restrained Brace.According to the research of this article, we can see that the steel-timber Buckling Restrained Brace has the characteristics of good integrity and light weight,also it has a good energy dissipation performance. The steel-timber Buckling Restrained Brace is a kind of new Buckling Restrained Brace which has wide application prospect.
