A Critical Study Of Yunnan Regional Architecture Creation

Yunnan is a fascinating and fruitful place. each nation retains their own unique view of life and world outlook, they eager to communicate with the outside world also. For variety of opportunities, people and culture continue to gather here, architectural creation makes a variety of responses between social and natural environment, architectural culture belongs to Yunnan, which have a developing situation. This thesis relies on the above background, as a critical study, I manage to think deeply about the regional architectural creation with self-reflection and self-discovery avenue in Yunnan.This thesis takes Kawakarpo Award as a research platform, while sorting out these winning entries. I try to classify them for comparison. The thesis injects internal and external reference, taking traditional architecture and architectural history as internal reference, to find the differences between architectural creation and local architecture. At the field of external reference, I launch a comparative study with western architectural theory and outstanding design case, to analysis the award-winning works of creative track, in order to grasp the architectural creative development of Yunnan.The thesis revolves round three aspects, which include symbol trait, materials, technology and space. Extracting specific perspectives to analysis different award-winning works, trying to restore truly analysis results in objectively way. Firstly, the symbol trait includes form, symbol, decorating, to analysis the characteristic of the creation and development direction. Secondly, based on the forms of building, I explore the response strategy with materials and technology between traditional to modern ways. Space is the result of architectural form and material boundary, which also affect symbol, materials and technology. I study the space from three aspects, symbol, surrounding, narrativity, to corresponding relationship between space and regional architectural creation.Finally, combining with the above research results, standing the angle of self-reflection, responding to the contemporary circumstance and traditions, trying to ponder the turning point and direction about the regional architectural creation, to search for a develop strategy of architectural design in Yunnan.
