Electric coaches are used more and more widely in the scenic area, golf course, train station, vacation village, etc.. Because of easy to use, environmental protection and energy saving, national policies are willing to encourage and support the development of electric coaches. The structure of electric coaches is simple. Electric coaches use batteries to store electrical energy.The electric motor will transform the electrical energy into mechanical energy.The power can be achieved for the vehicle wheel.Firstly, according to fault tree analysis and characteristics of electric coaches,the fault tree of vehicle was established.The fault tree of electric motor system and battery system was studied in detail.The fault trees provide direction for key components improved design of electric coach.Secondly, based on design requirements and various technical indicators of the QD14 A electric coaches, parameters of the model of electric coach can be determined. Refer to the characteristics and the design parameters, the electric coach chassis which can carry fourteen passengers with five rows of seats was designed. And the chassis model in Solidworks software was established. Using FEA software of Solidworks SimulationXpress, the finite element model of the electric coach chassis was determined. According to the actual use of electric coach,the chassis is divided into two conditions including full-laden of constant speed condition and full-laden of warping condition. The paper carries out static analysis of chassis structure. Meanwhile the intensity and rigidity of the chassis can be verified easily. And according to the analysis results, two improvements and recheck were made to finish the chassis design.Thirdly, according to the requirements of the electric coach design,the paper selected motor electric and battery.This paper introduces the VRLA battery design, finite element analysis of battery container,and battery manufacturing process.The type tests results shows the battery performance meet the design requirements.Finally, the performance of the electric coach was simulated and analyzed by the ADVISOR software. The driving range of 30km/h constant speed was simulated.Come to the electric coach’s maximum speed,maximum acceleration,and driving rang.The paper verified the correctness and feasibility of the electric coach design.
