There is an increasing pressure on urban transport with urbanization for the increase of urban population and transportation demand. Urban rail transit due to a series of advantages, such as large capacity and convenient operations, has become an important object in the development of urban traffic. With the advancement of urban rail transit construction, network operation has become the inevitable trend in the development of rail transit network. But at the same time, there are a series of problems about more traffic congestion and operational unsafety. It’s of great significance to research urban rail transit network congestion.Urban rail transit congestion has been investigated in following aspects:1) The structure characteristics of urban rail transit network were researched by the Application of complex network theory and network topology model. According to the general rule of development of rail transit network, the network development stages were divided into three phases, namely the early construction phase, expansion phase, encryption phase. The results showed that the relationship of urban rail transit and urban construction is getting more and more close to the status of coordination with the analysis of the development coupling by the model.2) By establishing the station passenger flow evaluation model, the relationship of station passenger flow characteristics in the different land properties near the station was investigated. According to the relationship between rail transit lines and city center location, the circuit was divided into four kinds, namely diameter line, circle, radius, suburbs. Through the station distribution in the circuit and the passenger flow characteristics, the characteristics were analyzed and the congested area was forecast.3) By analyzing the various factors affecting the passenger travel cost, the comprehensive impedance function was set up accords with the practice of passenger travel situation. Combined with the actual situation of passengers to determine the effective path selection method, the Logit model based on traffic characteristics of urban rail transit network was established. The example of Beijing rail transit network was given for traffic distribution. The characteristics of passenger travel route choice behavior were analyzed in different stages of the network development. And the situation of the lags of urban rail transit development is simulated in order to give suggestions to the operation.
