With the expansion of transportation industry, the excessive consumption of resources and environmental problem make great challenges to the sustainable development. Bus priority is a good solution to this problem. However, the emission of buses is much worse than car’s usually, and it’s also a great source of urban air pollution. The new energy vehicles, developing rapidly in the last few years, provides a compromise solution to the problem. The electric vehicles is the best way in all new energy technology now. As for the characteristics of electric drive, electric bus is the most accessible plans to promote. The object of the study is a new-developed electric bus, based on mature product, which consist of three-section chassis frame and all-bearing body. Compared to the prototype, the target bus has been made so many important changes that it’s necessary to reanalysis. To verify the strength, static analysis is essential. It’s also an important part to judge whether the natural frequency of the bus is in the range of road and engine exciting frequency. Light weight is researched to increase the range of the electric bus in the article. The main contents of the paper are as follows:1. Static analysis of the bus. The finite element static analysis is the main content of the article. To establish reasonable finite element model, many issues are discussed, such as the choice of element type, the load case, and the simulation of weld. On this basis, the value and location of the maximum stress under every case can be clear through static analysis, and whether the bus satisfy the strength requirement can also be defined.2. The mode analysis of the bus. By free modal analysis, the first ten order natural frequencies and corresponding can be obtained. Comparing the natural frequencies with the exciting frequencies of road and engine, the conclusion about resonance problem can be made.3. Light weight research. Reducing the weight is a good way to increase the range of the bus. This paper studies the method of using light material, replacing the steel with aluminum alloy in the bus body, to decrease the weight. To ensure the strength of aluminum body, reanalysis is implemented.
