With the increasing requirements for railway maintenance, the comprehensive maintenance mode becomes mechanized increasingly, the large-scale maintenance machine has already been the significant equipment to maintain the safe operation of railway line. Track lifting, lining, tamping by using tamping car is one of the main maintenance tasks. When the tamper is used to lift and line track, a too large change of track geometry will have a bad effect on the normal operation condition of track structure, especially on the track at the turnout.In this thesis, the basic composition, performance parameters and working device of CDC-16 turnout tamper are introduced. After the reasonable mechanical simplification, the force analytical model of track lifting and lining by tamper was established, and the evaluation index on the strength of track structure were determined. By means of the finite element method, the forces of track lifting and lining were calculated at different sleepers on railway line or at the turnout for different amounts of track lifting and lining task. The influences of different track lifting modes and track lining on the force and deformation of rail, sleeper and fastener were analyzed. From the perspective of track force, the reasonable track lifting scheme was proposed. Also different factors affecting track lifting and lining were analyzed. Aiming at the on-site problems, some suggestions on railway maintenance by tamper were proposed.The research results show that the forces of track lifting and lining of tamping machine as well as the force and deformation of track structure increases with the increasing amount of track lifting and lining. The maintenance tasks have a small effect on the mechanical characteristics of track components. The force required for track lining at the turnout and the effect on track components don’t exceed the limit. Controlling the amount of track lifting task at a time strictly and choosing the track lifting method reasonably at the turnout can not only avoid the problem that the track lifting equipments is short of power, but also maintain that the track lifting task won’t damage the turnout structure. In terms of turnout switch, connected parts and short-switch tie sections after turnout, track lifting on main line is available for lifting task. When the amount of track lifting at a time is 50 mm, track lifting using three rails should be applied at the frog section, and track lifting with human assistance must be adopted for the turnout section with switch ties of different lengths. When the amount of track lifting at a time is 30 mm, track lifting using three rails can be applied at the frog section and the turnout section with switch ties of different lengths. A smaller amount of track lifting at a time can alleviate the deficiency of working capacity of tamping machine and bearing capacity of track components, but the working efficiency is relatively lower. Thus it is recommended that the amount of track lifting at a time should be 15-30 mm. The operation rail temperature, fastener failure, wheel load effect on tamper and initial condition of operation environment will also affect track lifting and lining, which is suggested to be paid attention and taken the corresponding measures on.
