Friction and wear are the important reasons result in the parts failure in the modern industry. In order to save money, people pay more and more attention to the basic laws of friction and wear, wear mechanism and wear prediction research in recent years, the trend of this study is growing. This paper is the content of the research in this regard are based on the cylindrical spatial cam.The cam is important part for the machinery, in order to understand the friction and wear, firstly we introduced some domestic and foreign scholars’ research about cam friction and wear, particularly the progress and status of the cam wear prediction. And briefly introduced the basic principles of friction and wear. Proposed the content of this paper.Using the MMW-1A vertical type omnipotence friction and wear tester to have the tests, according to the user, designed the different experiments to detect the load, speed, sliding distance and the contact area have a influence on the friction coefficient. Using principal component analysis and principal component regression to experimental treatment. The result show that with the improvement of pin-disc’s load, speed and sliding distance, the friction coefficient reduces, in contrast the contact area can promote the friction coefficient. Using 4XC microscope experiments to observe the surface mechanism of 45 steel under 100 r / min and 400 r / min speed, it show that abrasive wear at low speed and adhesive wear under high-speed conditions. Then analyzes the common failure modes and wear process of cam.Select the cylindrical spatial cam as the research object, combine the Matlab and SolidWorks to build three-dimensional model of cylindrical spatial cam. Consider small deformation of the cam follower, using Ansys software to build flexible follower, then import Adams to carried out flexible dynamics simulation under conditions of rigid, the impact of contact force model selection function method, the tangential friction models Select Coulomb friction model. We can get the line graph of cam and roller, it is the foundation for the wear prediction. Simulate the contact model of cylindrical spatial cam and roller, it is line contact model in finite element software, analysis the contact force between the cam and roller, the results show a cylindrical spatial cam’s maximum contact stress in the top of the cam groove, gradually decreases from the top to the bottom.Establish the cam wear prediction model by Archard wear model, to defining the clearance of cylindrical spatial cam and roller. Compare to the load and speed, they have a different effect on the pin-disc wear. Research on the cylindrical spatial cam wear simulation, we found that the speed have a great effect on the cam wear. The reasons are the clearance between the cam and the roller, it impact to the groove, we can control the speed of the cam to increase the cam life. It also can proved some reference to predict the other spatial cam.
