In recent years, with the rapid development of national economy, the railway development is gradually heading to faster passenger transport and heavier freight transport. Da-Qin Railway Line (Datong-Qinhuangdao) is China’s first double-line electrified heavy-haul dedicated line for coal transport. As a representative of our country’s heavy-haul railway, it has played an important role in the history of our country’s heavy-haul transport. Now it has become an energy corridor that serves nation, people and affects China’s economic development, with traffic increasing steadily year by year. The traffic density and annual traffic volume have created a world record. China’s heavy-haul railway transport technology, represented by Da-Qin Railway Line, is ranking at advanced level around the world.A lot of heavy-haul trains are running at Da-Qin Railway Line, leading to large traffic density. In order to avoid off-line accidents and ensure safe running, heavy-haul trains are stopped from taking emergency braking and the driver is required to keep abreast of the running status, speed and distance of the front train to achieve steady manipulation of heavy-haul trains especially heavy-haul combined trains. Researching rear-end collision avoidance early warning system for heavy-haul trains can not only effectively avoid rear-end accidents caused by signal failure but also improve the running steadiness of heavy-haul trains.General situation of Da-Qin Railway Line and its important position in China’s railway transportation as well as its characteristics of heavy-duty transportation are described and summarized in this article. The situations of current rear-end collision avoidance early warning system for heavy-haul trains are also analyzed. Combined with the current equipment status of Da-Qin Railway Line, main research contents, methods, working principle, structure and tests in Da-Qin Railway Line of GSM-R mode,400K radio mode and LBJ mode of rear-end collision avoidance early warning system are discussed. By field tests, comparison and statistics of relevant data, and the analysis of advantages and disadvantages of different modes, a rear-end collision avoidance early warning system suitable for Da-Qin Railway Line is selected.
