As one of the national single track and semi-automatic blocking electrification railways, Dazhun railway (Datong-Junggar Railway line) located in Ordos Plateau is a very important route in the western coal transportation in our country. The whole line has large coal freight increased year by year since running in 1997, yet it cannot meet the requirements of the transportation now according to the design. In connection to this, the most direct and effective way to meet the transport requirements of Dazhun railroad is to increase the running pairs of unit 10,000-ton trains to improve the efficiency of the transport, reduce the time of wind testing and technical inspection of trains and expedite the turnover time of trains pulling in and departing from the railway station.This paper first analyzes the previous researches both in the broad and at home. Then the research shows the significance of organizing the heavy-haul train operations on the Dazhun railroad. This paper is to analyze the current cargo status of Dazhun railroad from the perspective of demand for coal transportation, emphasizing the importance of running 10,000t heavy haul trains for this railroad.It has a research of technical conditions on how to operate the 10,000-ton trains safely and efficiently and proposes to optimize the configuration of the traction equipment and the ways to control the rains to prove the feasibility of running 10,000t trains for Dazhun railway based on relevant trains dynamic tests. Based on the problems analysis on the Dazhun railroad, we have put out a lot of useful measures to improve the train organizations on this railway line.Based on the problems analysis on the Dazhun railroad, we have pointed out many important methods to solve the existed problems. As a result, this research can help to improve the train organization on the Dazhun railroad. Furthermore, the research in this paper is also helpful in optimizing heavy-haul train operations on other similar lines.
