With the rapid development of economy in our country, the increasing electricity demand makes it urgent for the government to solve the problems of electricity resources shortage, loads rapid increment and exceeding grid transmission loss. Therefore, in order to ensure the stability of grid and improve the efficiency of electricity market, applying the demand response strategy in smart grid is an inevitable trend in the future. As the residential side is an integral part in the electricity planning, its energy distribution and electricity cost has important influence on the social economics. Therefore, the strategies of household appliances scheduling optimization are proposed in order to reduce the energy cost and achieving the optimization of grid resources.Firstly, the related concepts, applying areas and development of demand response are introduced in this paper. It analyses the successful demand response projects implemented in the large industrial users at home and abroad in detail.Secondly, according to the smart control and communication technology, the household appliances optimal scheduling algorithms based on the conditions of user discomfort considered and price uncertainty are proposed, which is related to the appliance characters and user habits. The household energy management system categories the different types of appliances and the corresponding discomfort descriptions are proposed. The objective function of the optimal algorithm is saving the electricity cost of residential users. It combines the objective and appliance operational constraints to form the appliance scheduling model.At last, the integer programming, genetic algorithm and linear programming are applied to solve and validate the household appliance optimal scheduling algorithm based on MATLAB. The electricity cost and discomfort of appliance scheduling is analyzed and validated under the conditions of user discomfort considered and price uncertainty. The simulations reveals that the household scheduling method considering user discomfort gets better results in electricity save in different pricing strategies. The control algorithm considering the user discomfort proposed in this paper achieves the goals of electricity save and optimal resource distribution.
