Modern citizens spend more than 70% of their time indoors, indoor pollution has therefore become the most pressing environmental problem. With the development of the Internet of Things(IoT), people are starting to pursue a comfortable, healthy and secure lifestyle using IoT technology, wireless communication technology, sensors technology, embedding technology to complement the living environment, smart home is starting to emerge in our daily life. Taking the monitoring and adjusting of indoor environment as a starting point and combine it with IoT and smart home technology, this article outlined a design of a smart environmental monitoring and adjusting system. Using sensors grid to collect indoor environmental data and uploading them to end user terminals through the Zigbee network, user can adjust environmental conditions through infer-red remote controls base on real-time environmental data.Firstly, this article explained the trend in the development of IoT and smart home, and then analyzed the key technologies of smart home. After carefully comparing various wireless technology, we concluded that the Zigbee technology has the advantage of high security, low consumption, customizable network, and high cloud capacity. As a result, we chose Zigbee technology as the choice of the wireless technology for this design. Then we determined the overall demand for smart home environmental detection system through field research, established an environmental monitoring and adjusting system centered around the Zigbee network with terminal devices including temperature and humidity sensors, carbon dioxide sensors, sensor dust particles, formaldehyde sensor and WR-RFIR.According to the design solution of smart home environmental adjusting system and the requirement of its operating environment, we carefully chose the sensor and the module type which is suitable for each device, implemented the design of the hardware, and explained the choice of chips and circuit design. At the same time, Zigbee network grid and communication protocol fit for in door environment has been set up according to the working procedure of the entire system, and a software has been designed according to the program logic of each sensor.After completing the set up of the entire system, it can then be inserted into various operating environment according the testing standard of industrial products. After testing, the design of this smart home system has shown to be suitable for the indoor environment of 120 square meters, reliable in collecting information, stable in data transfer, and the system is boasting with desirable qualities such as low energy consumption, low cost, easy to set up, good capacity for extension and is suitable for everyday usage.
