Since high temperature superconducting(HTS) materials were discovered, people have been devoted to the practical application of stable levitation characteristics of permanent magnet-HTS system. HTS maglev technology with its unique self-stability has been widely applied in many fields. And HTS maglev vehicle, with its high speed, convenience, environmental protection and energy saving, has become an important aspect of applications of HTS maglev system. In this paper, a new HTS maglev system is studied which is set up based on the experimental platform of the side-mounted HTS maglev system in the vacuum piping. The new system equipped with the three peaks-permanent magnet guidway(PMG) named three peaks-PMG side-mounted HTS maglev system. According to the operation characteristic of the system, the operation mode of the system is simulated, and the levitation characteristics of the system are studied though experiment and simulation. The experiment is desgined to study the effect of the three peaks-PMG on levitation force and guiding force, when the maglev vehicle rotating at high speed is in different cooling position and working position, in the three peaks-PMG side-mounted HTS maglev system, and the results are analyzed according to the three peaks-PMG magnetic induction intensity distribution. According to the experimental results of the guiding force, the levitation characteristics of several different superconducting blucks arrangements in the maglev system are studies in this paper through experiment to seek the best arrangement. We hope this paper can provide some reference for the operation of the three peaks-PMG side-mounted HTS maglev system. In the first chapter, the research background of this paper, the development process of the superconducting material as well as the domestic and foreign research progress of the HTS maglev system are introduced, and the research and development of the HTS maglev system in the vacuum piping is described briefly. The first kind of superconductors and the second kinds of superconductors are introduced. This chapter describes the principle and calculation model of the HTS maglev system, and briefly introduces the applications of the HTS maglev technology, including EDS, EMS, EMS and MAS.In the second chapter, the traditional HTS maglev system and the side-mounted HTS maglev system are compared. The experimental platform of the side-mounted HTS maglev system in the vacuum piping is introduced briefly, then, the structure of the HTS maglev system and the experimental device is explained in this paper. The third chapter discusses the characteristics of levitation force of the three peaks-PMG side-mounted HTS maglev system. The experiment is desgined to study the effect of the three peaks-PMG on levitation force, when the maglev vehicle rotating at high speed is in different cooling position and working position, in the three peaks-PMG side-mounted HTS maglev system, and the results are analyzed according to the three peaks-PMG magnetic induction intensity distribution. In the fourth chapter, the characteristics of guiding force is studied based on the structure and operation mode of the side-mounted HTS maglev system through experiment and supplement experiment, and the guiding force changed rule is summed up.In the fifth chapter, the levitation characteristics of superconducting blucks arrangements of single magnetic peak and three magnetic peaks are compared and analyzed to seek the best arrangement which is conducive to the stability of operation of the system.
