Many countries have began to pay close attention to the truck-mounted howitzer gradually because of the light weight, high road mobility, transported easily and low cost. The ammunition loading of traditional truck-mounted howitzer was artificial and it had some shortcoming. It is necessary for truck-mounted howitzer to outfit the ammunition automatic loading system because it can increase shoot rate and enhance vitality.The truck-mounted howitzer was used as the research object, and according to structure characteristics of truck-mounted howitzer, the study of truck-mounted howitzer ammunition automatic loading system was started. The automatic loading system structure program applied to truck-mounted howitzer was proposed, the design regulation, overall composition and the structure arrangement of the automatic loading system were discussed in detail. The subsystem was designed, the structure type and working principle of modular charges distribution mechanism and ammunition holding device were also researched as the key task. The multi-rigid-body dynamics theory of mechanical system was used to analyze dynamic characteristics of subsystem, the subsystem dynamics features were summarized and it verified that the structure was designed correctly, the finite element theory was used to study statics characteristics of the key mechanism, then the adaptation between ammunition automatic loading system and truck-mounted howitzer was analyzed. the power adopted by subsystem was selected and the parameters were calculated,the control system of ammunition automatic loading system was also studied in theory and the important control subsystem was designed.The design and research of truck-mounted howitzer ammunition automatic loading system in the paper could provide technology base for developing automation and unmanned truck-mounted howitzer system, and provide a new thought and method for the upgrade of the semi-automatic loading system of the existing self-propelled howitzer.
