With its high frequency and wide range of fire coverage,the Gatling weapon has been paid more and more attention in the air and missile defense. As the core component of the Gatling weapon, breechblock sometimes break- down in actual application because of the crack initiation and propagation. It will be helpful to improve the design of breechblock structure and enhances the reliability of the Gatling weapon through theoretical analysis and numerical simulation. This paper take a certain Gatling weapon as an example,has studied the crack propagation in its breechblock based on the extended finite element method. By introducing the idea of parametric design, the simulation process of crack growth is simplified while the simulation efficiency is improved.First, through the N-code simulation this paper obtains the breechblock fatigue damage cloud chart, which is used as the basis of the pre-crack and carries on the fracture growth simulation in ABAQUS. Based on the same principle, this paper makes a simulation analysis on the crack propagation process of the Ejector, the open/closed locking plane and the small Ejector. The conclusions are in good agreement with the theoretical analysis and the experimental results, which verify the feasibility of the extended finite element method in the crack propagation of the breechblock.Next, this paper take Ejector as an example, has discussed the influence fracture growth different factors(crack angle, depth, position, load) between these variables and the crack final shape and the fracture growth speed relations separately. Results showed that the effects of different factors on crack propagation is not the same and the change trend is different.The conclusions also can be used as the basis for improving the maintenance method of the Gatling weapon.Finally, this paper introduced the Python language briefly. On this basis, through writing script program and customizing the relevant plug-in realizes the parametric design of the breechblock from modeling to simulation, which simplifies the simulation process effectively.The design idea of the whole process is used for reference to the design of the parameters on the other parts of the Gatling weapon.Overall, the conclusions in the breechblock simulation are based on small caliber Gatling weapon, but the relevant analysis ideas for other types of artillery or automatic weapons crack growth also have some reference value.
