Research On The Application Of Symbolic Language In The Visual System Of Ancient City Neighborhood

Ancient city neighborhood has a unique style of architecture and the humanities which also reflects the historical and cultural connotation contained in a city. The transformation of the old city neighborhood affects the continuation and development of the city’s image and customs. The importance of the visual language of symbols with respect to landscape and planning in the transformation of the ancient city neighborhoods remodeling work is often overlooked. The inappropriate symbolic language design in visual syten makes the ancient city neighborhoods become lifeless tourist area,brings a damage to its unique cultural characteristics. It is necessary to expand research of the role of the visual system symbolic language design in the transformation of neighborhoods.The purpose of this thesis’s study is intended to guide people to pay attention to the situation of the ignorance of the role of symbolic language played in the ancient city neighborhoods reconstruction,to strengthen the use of symbolic language in the ancient city neighborhoods reconstruction. Try summed up the general characteristics and laws which of proper using symbolic language in ancient city neighborhoods to help save the continuation of the original historical style and culture of neighborhoods, modern fusion of Chinese and foreign elements to impart new vigor to the ancient city neighborhoods.First of all, the definition of symbol language and the theory of Semiotics in visual system as as a theoretical basis for this study are briefly introduced in this thesis. Secondly, the case study of Shichahai which is the one of the most representative historic district in Beijing and the surrounding ancient city neighborhoods is performed. The situation analysis and the evaluation of culture, fusion, fun, interactive and violation of the symbolic language in the visual system of the region is given.Also points out the shortcomings of the use of symbolic language in the visual system of the case. Comparation of the visual system of the North-South differences in the use of symbolic language base on the example of the Qing Grand Canal Bridge Historic District, Kuan Alley and Zhai Alley in Chengdu is performed. Bermingham canal and the Xingang bar in Denmark as an example is token to show the regional expression of the historical neighborhoods in foreign cities. And the experience of the fusion of visual symbols in Chinese and Western cultural background is analyzed. Finally, combined with the previous study on the use of symbolic language in the Shichahai area, the thesis discusses the Enlightenment of visual symbol language in the integration of the South and the north.In this thesis, a detailed analysis from the perspective of Chinese and foreign integration, modern and traditional, diversified of the successful case of the use of visual symbol language is performed. This thesis try to integrate the use of the visual symbolic language of classical and modern, Chinese and foreign and the study of inspiring people to better use symbolic language in the visual system of the city neighborhoods is also carried out. This study will help to create a more cultural and spiritual symbol language atmosphere.
