Facing the pressing energy and environment issues, developing the new energy vehicles (NEVs) represented by electric vehicles has become an important measure for various countries to step up strategic transformation of transportation and energy. Regarded as one of seven strategic emerging industries for steering the future course of social and economic development, the Chinese Government especially issued the Energy-saving and New Energy Vehicles Development Plan (2012-2020) in 2012. In the foreseeable future, China will continue to increase policy support and push forward NEV development.Under this background, the electric vehicles have become a hot research area. Because the driving system can directly determine the performance of electric vehicles, it has become the priority among priorities.Technologies of multi-motor and multi-driving-mode has become the developing trend of the EV industry in recent years. Based on this requirements, a new pure EVs layout design proposal is designed in this paper. And after complete the work of selecting and calculating parameters of the individual elements, the performance of the electric vehicle is simulated. The main work and results of this paper are as follow:(1) Complete the design and calculation work of 4 new pure EVs layout design proposals with multi-motor and multi-driving-mode. Confirm the series type layout with dual output shaft motors as the final layout proposal of the pure electric vehicle EV-1 after comparing and analysing. This layout proposal could provide six driving modes as follow:single-front-drive, double-front-drive, single-rear-drive, double-rear-drive, front-rear drive and all-wheel-drive.(2) According to the relevant national policies and the basic requirements of the laboratory, the target parameters of EV-1 are presented. Selecting the motor, battery and clutch, and calculating parameters of them.(3) Built up the simulation mode of EV-1 by simulation software. So we can estimate the performance of complete vehicle before we carry out the modification experiment based on the prototype vehicle. Simulation results show that, the range, the maximum speed, the acceleration capability and the maximum climbing degree basically reached the design requirements. And the dual-motor driving modes have obvious advantages over the single-motor driving modes in performance.(4) In this paper, the influence of various parameters on the performance of complete vehicle is studied, including the gross mass, the vehicle voltage, patterns of the battery pack, the pedal characteristics and the motor power distribution. According to the simulation results, the parameters are optimized and the range of the complete vehicle is improved.
