Firstly, a brief introduction about the typical accidents in service of the multi beam bridge, and the common damage of this kind of bridge was given. Then, the influence of the diaphragm thickness to the structure was analyzed, based on the calculation of the beeline and skew 30m simple supported multi T-shaped beam bridge. An integrated finite element model of the entire bridge was established by ANSYS software. Five conditions are calculated, the heavy vehicle load act in the midspan of the middle beam, in the 1/4 span of the middle beam, in the 1/4 span of the side beam, in the 1/4 span of the side beam when a bearing fails, and in the midspan of the side beam for the purpose of comparing the static characteristics, such as the longitudinal displacement in beam end, the longitudinal stress in middle span bottom and the lateral stress in wet joint of the multi T-shaped beam bridge with different diaphragm thickness. Finally, a finite element model of the entire bridge with grillage method based on beam elements was established by using MIDAS/CIVIL. The substructure and foundation of the bridge was stimulated with full consideration of the pile-soil interaction. The response spectrum method and time-history method were applied to analyze the seismic response of the multi T-shaped beam bridge. The analysis of the results indicates that thickening the diaphragms properly can reduce the risk of crack in the bottom of the beam, the lateral stress in wet joint and the longitudinal displacement in beam end, improving the integrity.
