With the acceleration of urbanization construction industry has become one of the pillar industries in our country. In recent years, the scale of the construction project gradually expands, designers pursuit more high-end design concepts and tastes also make the architectural become complicated, long-standing problems of inefficiencies, resource waste and frequent rework have become more prominent.Building Information Modeling (BIM) provides a way to solve a series of problems. As another revolution of CAD, BIM brings not only a change in the techno logy and information management, but also the breakthrough of construction work mode.As the leading part of whole life cycle on BIM technology application, the design phase of construction project has a pivotal position. Based on BIM technology, collaborative design platform combines participants, using great advantages of 3D visualization design to find errors, collisions and some other problems. An efficient way of information transmission and communication can solve a lot of problems in the construction industryIn order to deepen the application of BIM technology in the design phase of the project, this paper combines with theories of BIM and carries out the following researches:(1) This paper states the characteristics and application process of collaborative design, based on fully understand about the connotation of the collaborative design, the author summarizes the advantages and disadvantages of several modeling software. Revit is employed for the collaborative platform according to the needs of application research.(2) The quality of the family not only affects the quality of the model, but also the design efficiency, and the depth of the application of BIM. In this paper, we discussed the method of establishing custom parameterized family and give the instructions of parameterized family with examples.(3) Based on the example of southwest jiaotong university MingCheng hall clock tower project modeling, this paper discusses the disadvantages of traditional visual collaborative design.(4) Aiming at the disadvantages of traditional visual collaborative design, this paper proposes a new visual collaborative design method, which is combined with Revit, Fuzor.Civil 3D, Infraworks.Using Fuzor to carry out the virtual roaming in the model of project, checking the information of components and collision detection. The model information is imported into the Infraworks to complete the external visual collaborative design of the project. Based on the example of Chengdu metro line two, the 4 phase of the East Third Ring Road station, this paper states the application process of the method.
