The 12 th Five-Year development plan of our country proposed building a strong“Smart Grid”. As an important part of “Smart Grid”, intelligent distribution network got more attention on its safety and reliability gradually. Distribution automation is an important means to realize the intelligent distribution network. It supported the bidirectional transmission of control information and business information from the control center to the end user, and completed automatic monitoring, control and fast fault isolation of distribution network terminal equipment and line. So it is an important link in the construction of distribution automation system. Nowadays, with the rapid development of various communication technologies, the choice of the appropriate communication mode to build the distribution network has become an important issue for the distribution automation system.This article makes a study of the current mainstream distribution communication network communication technology, and deeply researches the needs of distribution automation business communication. For the construction of distribution automation in China, this article combined with the characteristics of distribution automation and distribution communication network backbone layer and access layer structure,selected EPON as the main technique of distribution network access layer。The key of this article is EPON technology analysis, and use the distribution area of Zhengzhou city as an example。According to network structure and distribution terminal of the regional distribution network,this article designs a EPON-based communication scheme of distribution network access layer。Finally this article gives a test of the EPON system where has been built in the project。The system can not only meet the current distribution automation in a region the needs of the business, but also the future needs of business expansion. According to the network structure of the test, we explore the impact of the new network in the EPON system on the performance of the network with OPNET, and put forward the network structure optimization.
