| As one of China’s 56 ethnic groups, after thousands years of Chinese history change, the Tibetan national minority has been formed their own specific behavior patterns of life. This pattern of behavior is closely related to the geographical location, the surrounding environment, religion and other aspects of the Tibetan nationality. The unique life behavior patterns had a profound effect on the residential building internal structure, function characteristics, shape features and other aspects of structure formation. So the Tibetan self building has formed a particular pattern by now. But the similar basic forms has been unable to meet the current needs of the Tibetan people, as they followed the traditional mode of living after switch to town life from traditional living. This paper takes the case of ZuoGua Village, Shangri-La, Yunnan Province as an example, explores that the Tibetan self building should retain the traditional architectural form or research and develop new mode of self building. Where to go?There is no denying that some of the existing residential patterns make up some of the problems existing in the traditional Tibetan housing, for example, poor sanitation, poor ventilation and lighting, lack of privacy and so on. But the Tibetan ancestors traditional living patterns formed for many years make the local living people cannot fully adapt to the modern mode of residential. Thus the living contradiction is becoming more and more prominent. The author hopes that it can form a new architectural form with careful investigation, which adapt to the Tibetan traditional ways of life and meet the modern residential function different from it used to be. The main innovation of this paper is as follows.1. Study the Tibetan self building from the perspective of the users, not from the designer’s perspective. The Tibetans really needs is the key to residential design;2. Based on the Tibetan traditional life behavior model as the research background, this paper did a comparative study the different needs of Tibetan residents and the general household? It strives to pursue a reasonable conclusion by multi-angle and systematic research.3. This research is not only aimed at the self building design of the Shangri-La county Jian tang town, but also has a certain degree of guidance for all future Tibetan residential design.4. This paper will also consider to put some of the traditional Tibetan essential items, such as iron furnace, Fokan into Tibetan self building design, and try to combine the northern heating technology with Shangri-La’s self building, to solve the traditional Tibetan building in the heating.5. Discuss the possibility of bringing new building materials into the self building of the Tibetan nationality. |
