Since the beginn in g of sandwich structure, it become one kind of important structures in the fields of automobile, aerospace and other engineerin g due to its high specif ic strength and specif ic modu lus, fatigue resistance. It can also absorb energy effectively caused by impact load. In recent years, material applications of sandwich structure is also facin g low-carbon environ ment, security and stability challenges as people’s awareness of environmental protection and safety. Coconut mesocarp sandwich composite structure was made from mesocarp of coconut ripe fruit and two advanced materials as carbon fiber reinforced composite material and glass fiber reinforced plastic. Then the mesocarp is processed into core in sandwich structure. Composite panels and mesocarp were connected together with the method of adhesive bonding. The mechanical properties of coconut mesocarp sandwich composite structure was researched based on the experimental method, then inf luence of manufacturing process, material selection to sandwich structure was analyzed in this test.Firstly, an exposition about current state of the domestic and international research on sandwich structure was made, and then it explored the manufacturin g process and the mold in g process of sandwich structure whose core was made from coconut mesocarp biolo gical material. Un iaxial load quasi- static compression test was done respectively for different panels of coconut mesocarp composite structure. Force- disp lacement curve under static load of coconut mesocarp sandwich composite structure was gotten by software.The resultin g curve was analyzed and calculated, mechanical parameters and energy absorption value of composite structure for different panel material were obtain. Afterwards, a comparison about mechanical parameters was made. The results showed that its force- disp lacement curve had obvious three-stage deformation properties, similar as corrugated structures and foam sandwich structures. Coconut mesocarp sandwich composite structure panels have a greater impact on the overall energy absorption value and the init ial peak force, when they were subjected to an external force or impact load, energy that loaded into the coconut mesocarp sandwich composite structure was absorbed by deformation of fiber and matrix destruction. Sub sequently, tensile test for panel material was done to analy ze its mechanical performance characteristics and failure mechanism. While three-point bending test for coconut mesocarp sandwich composite structure was made to analyze and calculate bendin g mechanical parameters. It can also va lidate the structure stability performance.Experimental research and analysis about coconut mesocarp sandwich composite structure in this paper provides a reference for the application of bio lo gical materials, composite materials and other advanced materials, the results have gu idin g signif icance and reference value for the design, manufacturin g and engineerin g applications of this kind sandwich structures.
