Major traffic fatalities of school children occupants promote the popularization and application of school buses. Although the structure safety of school buses has improved relative to the general passenger buses, there are significant defects in the restraint system design for the lack of in-depth research on child passenger safety. The restraint system CRS fixation way of school buses and passenger buses are totally different. There is a relatively independent restraint space for passenger buses in protecting schoolchildren, which is difficult to achieve for school buse s however. Therefore, it is necessary to develop the children dummy model in keeping with Chinese characteristics to conduct in-depth research on the school bus CRS.In this paper, the gray model based on adaptive genetic algorithm has been used to establish the children dummy model with Chinese children’s feature size. Influence factors of chest injury of the children dummy model with Chinese children’s feature size have been discussed under the school bus restraint system.This paper conducts research on dummy modeling, chest injury analysis by theoretical modeling, simulation analysis and experiment. In theoretical modeling, characteristics of school bus accidents are worked out by in-depth accidents investigation and analysis. On this basis, the continui ty equation of Chinese children critical dimensions has been established by the gray model based on adaptive genetic algorithm. In simulation analysis, this paper establishes Chinese children dummy with typical period children characteristics by scaling. At the same time, in order to investigate the model validity, this paper establishes simulation model and make simulation comparison among Chinese children dummy, HybridШ6 year-old child dummy and TNO P10 child dummy. In addition, in order to investigate th e effects of school bus restraint system on chest injury of 6-year-old child dummy with Chinese characteristics, this paper firstly establishes a proven school bus restraint system model through experimental research, and secondly selects the relevant seat parameters as the restraint system effect parameters to make sensitivity analysis, and finally analyzes the impact of each seat parameter on chest injury of school bus child dummy one by one.The results show that gray model based on adaptive genetic algo rithm could establish children dummy with Chinese children size effectively. Under the restraint of school bus two-point belt, only seat belt friction coefficient in restraint system parameters has great influence on chest injury of Chinese 6-year-old child dummy. There is great practical significance to develop children dummy with Chinese characteristics to conduct school bus CRS research.
