Industry has always had a very important influence in human production and life, and industrial building also occupies an important place in urban planning and architectural design. Industrial building has experienced about two centuries of history, and traditional industrial building rough walls have been gradually being replaced by the new type of modern industrial building. Today, industrial building is no longer just to meet the needs of process, technology and structure; it also puts forward higher requirements on indoor space utilization, appearance, and building materials use. The future industrial building can rely on mechanical equipment to overcome environmental and geographical constraints, to create a more appropriate size in space, and to emphasis more on architectural aesthetics and landscape in external environment.By reviewing the history, and analyzing the development status and differences of large machining workshop at home and abroad, this paper studies site design of the factory and single design of industrial building. Based on development trend of industrial buildings in the future, this study starts with the construction characteristics of the large machine shop, and takes humanized design as the foothold. It discusses the design ideas, strategies and methods of the architectural design of the large-scale machining workshop in the aspects of humanization, from functional composition, spatial structure and outdoor environment of industrial plant to space composition, color, building materials of single building, and humanized management. Combined with the industrial building design cases of author’s participation, this paper makes a practical summary of the humanization of large machining workshop design.
