With optimal adjustment of the energy distribution in China, numbers of west to east long distance power transmission line are utilizes series capacitor compensation technology with purpose of save energy loss and improve transmission capacity, which bring sub-synchronous resonance as a distortion to power point unit. Because of the mechanism of SSR and its harm to generators, the SSR problem should be inhibitted to ensure the safety of generator operation. So far the methods of inhibitting the SSR mainly include TCSC, static blocking filter, SEDC, SVC and so on.According to the status of Jinjie power plant after conneting the TCSC, this paper carries out the quantitative analysis on the SSR problem in Jinjie power plant with simulation and complex torque coefficient method in time domain. Based on the result, the SSR problem in the power plant is severe and it should be solved. After comparison, the local SSR-DS based on SVC is selected. The control strategy of the device and the cooperation strategy between four devices are introduced in the paper. As the SSR-DS is the first device that is used to inhibit the SSR based on SVC, the effect, stability and reliability of the device should be tested. Since the Jinjie power plant was put into practice, over 300 SSR has taken place in 6 years and the data has been recorded and analysed. The parameters such as torque, negative sequence current, bearing vibration in the three models of generators have been completely analysed to find out the effect of SSR-DS.Associating with the data analysis, SSR-DS could inhibit the torque parameter to the normal range in a short time, which not only effectively maintains the bearing reliability, but also makes little effect on the negative sequence current and bearing vibration. However, by the reason of this equipment is first applied for power plant in China, there is little experience to study from, thus several problems in the early stage is also exposed. In this essay, the reasons and solutionsof problems caused by SSR-DS equipment and its further application in Jinjie Power Plant is going to be elaborated.This essay analyzed the inhabitation reliability and stability of first-applied domestical SSR-DS equipment in China, hence suggested the coming research direction in this engineering domain.
