With the increasing deterioration of the environment and the highlight of the disadvantages of traditional fossil fuels, the development of renewable energy is becoming one of important ways to solve the current energy crisis and environmental issues. Almost countries in the world are actively developing renewable energy currently. However, renewable energy generation has intermittent and random operating characteristics, uncontrollable source and unstable output have negative impacts on the safe and stable of the power grid. Therefore, the power grid of large-scale consumption of renewable energy resource as a complex system, its vulnerability can’t be ignored. The aim of vulnerability assessment of power grid is to identify the weak links, enhance its safety and stability. So, it’s urgently need for research on influence of large-scale consumption of renewable energy to power grid’s vulnerability, so as to guarantee the grid system reliable operation.This paper researches on vulnerability evaluation of grid caused by the problems of large-scale consumption of renewable energy comprehensively and scientifically. Firstly, it has the literature review about the research of the renewable energy, vulnerability assessment and evaluation system at home and abroad. Then, it describes to the definition, classification, and vulnerability assessment theory of the power grid, from the five dimensions of power generation sector, power transmission sector, distribution sector, electricity sector and management sector to analyze vulnerability factors of power grid system, according to the theory of risk assessment and situation of renewable energy grid, the risk factors and index system of grid vulnerability assessment is established. Finally, in order to get the index weight, the paper has used attribute reduction algorithm of a rough set and particle swarm optimization, and conditional entropy method to determining weights. While the credibility theory is applied on the vulnerability evaluation, and the assessment model is established.In summary, this paper establishes the evaluation index system and model of large-scale consumption of renewable energy to the power grid’s influence of vulnerability. The power grid in Northwest is used to validate the effectiveness and practicality of the model, and the corresponding suggestions are made. The research provides a guidance on the development of renewable energy and the construction of network defense system.
