Smart grid construction in China is advancing continuously, so the requirements for distribution network reliability are also increasing. Whether from the view of national level or the State Grid Corporation, the urban distribution network construction has been put on a great priority. Relative to developed countries, China’s distribution network grid structure is weak, relatively poor operation and management level and backward reliability index. In-depth study of typical current network structure to master their reliability level and control over their use of characteristics has great significance for the distribution network rational planning and structural improvements.In this article, typical grid structures of the distribution network were analyzed from the perspective of reliability assessment. First, introduce the calculation algorithm flow and the corresponding computational model of minimal cut sets algorithm by studying the reliability assessment methods. Then selecting nine typical grid structures from urban distribution network, assess these typical grid structures using established evaluation model of minimal cut sets. Reliability assessment of typical grid structures is conducting from different load density, load rate and considering equipment life cycle three aspects. Final conclusions are given based on the assessment results, providing theory and data support for planning and improving the distribution network.
